Introduction
The monotypi c gen us El anel a Rolston is included in Secti on 3 of Pentatomini [Rolston et al. , 1980] wh ich is char acter ized by t he pr esen ce of a m edian tubercle on thi rd abdomin al ur oster nite. Descript ion of E. heve ra Rol ston, 1980, the type species of Elanela, was ba sed on a fem ale from Iquitos, Peru. Grazia [1989] descr ibed the mal e of E. he vera based on specimens bel ongin g to the Leiden Museum and the Bra zilia n col lecti ons Museu Para ense Emili o Goeldi (Belйm, Parб), and Coleзгo CEPLAC (Belйm, Parб). The study of a ddition al specimens received from northwestern Bra zil r evea led a new species which is h ere described and compared with E. he vera. Elanela is known from Suriname, Peru (Iquitos), and Brazil (Amapб, Amazonas, Parб, and Rondфnia) in the northwestern componen t of the Neotr opica l region, according to Amori m & Pires [1996]. DE SCRIPTION. This species is very sim ilar to E. hevera in dorsal aspect an d size (Fig. 1 ); it can be distinguish ed by the m o rph olog y o f th e p ygo ph or e e spec ially by t he structure of parameres and segmen t X. (Figs 2-3 ). Measuremen ts: total length 6.1 5, head len gth 1.0 6, anteocular len gth 0.4 1, pronotal length 1 .47 , scu tellar len gth 2 .29 , h ead w idth 1 .80 , in terocu lar w idth 0 .90 , in terocelar w idth 0 .36 , pron otal w idth 3 .93 , scu tellar width 2.2 9, abdom inal width at third segm ent 3.9 3, antenn al segm ents m issin g. Dorsal su rface m atte, darker than in E. hevera; disc of scutellum an d coriu m w ith wider dark brown spots; membrane of hem elytra heavily in fuscate. Lateroventral thirds of abdomen w ith dark brow n spots in addition to the oblong spot on m edian third. Ma le gen italia .
