18.11.2013 On November 14, 2013 at the Faculty of Journalism was held a presentation of the first Russian edition of the book “Journalism and Society” by the famous theorist of mass communication Professor Denis McQuail (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands). The book presentation took place within the frames of the conference International Moscow media readings (14-15 November, 2013).

The book describes the interrelation between journalism and society from professional, axiological and normative perspectives. The author tries to systemize and summarize the approaches to mass media of different national research schools, including the Russian perspective.

The book presentation became one of the key events of the Moscow readings and attracted interest from the faculty members, as well as from the conference participants.

Presenting his book, Denis McQuail addressed the audience in Russian and underlined that in the published research study he plays the role not of a journalist, but a scholar, a theorist, who observes the development of journalism in different countries and is willing to find new ways of its development.

The Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Elena Vartanova and the President of the Faculty of Journalism Yassen Zassoursky expressed their confidence that the published work will become an important book for the students of journalism faculties in Russia, as well as for scholars, PhD students and young researchers.
