DS-100 Asynchronous Serial Adapter RS-232 for AT

DESCRIPTION:

The DS-100 is a two channel asynchronous serial RS-232
communication adapter with versatile interrupt selection for
the IBM AT. The adapter features the extended 16-bit AT
bus, which provides access to the computer's additional
interrupts. The DS-100 has a versatile interrupt feature
which allows the user to select the desired interrupt, or to
share an interrupt with another device. Users may select
from interrupts IRQ2-7, 10-12 or 14-15.

The extended base address capability of the DS-100 supports
any COM port. Two 16450 UART's provide two independent
ports, allowing the user to communicate to two separate
devices. The DS-100 supports baud rates to 56K (maximum of
256K with optional 16550). In case a limited number of
interrupt levels are available for system expansion, the
DS-100 is capable of sharing an interrupt with another device
with the same feature.



ADDRESSING:

Both serial communication ports have user-selectable addresses
via two DIP switches. These switches allow each serial port to
reside anywhere in the I/O space on eight byte boundaries. Bits
A0, A1, and A2 are used to access the eight internal registers
of the 16450. Each channel also offers enable/disable
capabilities.

Decoding of all 16 address lines provides compatiblity with
systems using COM3 at 3220H and COM4 at 3228 while also greatly
reducing the possibility of addressing conflicts in I/O
intensive systems.

DSDP-100 Serial Communication 2 RS-232 and 2 Parallel Channels

DESCRIPTION:

The DSDP-100 is a multiple channel communication board which
supports two parallel ports and two RS-232 serial ports. Each
serial port uses a 16450 UART supporting baud rates to 56K.
Optionally available are 16550 UARTs which support baud rates to
256K and provide an additional FIFO mode to reduce CPU overhead.
Each Centronics compatible parallel interface consists of an
eight bit bi-directional data port, a five bit status port, and
a five bit command port.

Each printer port of the DSDP-100 supports bi-directional data
transfer. This feature allows data to be input through the
printer interface. Both the serial and parallel interfaces are
address selectable allowing the ports to be installed in the
computer without conflicting with other devices. Each port may
also be individually enabled or disabled. Versatile interrupt
circuitry allows each port access to IRQ2-IRQ7. The DSDP-100
also has interrupt sharing capabilities, allowing it to share
interrupts with other Quatech adapters supporting this feature.

The DSDP-100 occupies only one expansion slot in the PC. All
ports may be accessed through a high density D-62 connector. An
adapter cable is included to convert the D-62 into 2 D-25 female
(parallel port) and 2 D-25 male (serial port) connectors.

ADDRESS/INTERRUPT SELECTIONS:

All four ports of the DSDP-100 are address selectable using a
block of 8 dip switches. This allows each serial port to reside
in any 8-byte I/O address range from 0000H to 03F8H. Similarly
the parallel ports may reside in any 4-byte I/O address range
from 0000H to 03FCH.

Each port of the DSDP-100 may select an interrupt in the range
IRQ2-IRQ7 using a six position jumper block. An interrupt
sharing circuit implemented on the board allows multiple ports
to share the same interrupt level or to share the interrupt with
another Quatech adapter supporting this feature.

Each port of the DSDP-100 can be enabled or disabled by setting
the appropriate jumper as defined in the manual.
