    Current Software Projects

    Software to benefit the astronomical community and especially the X-ray astronomy community. Current software projects include:

  • DS9: the latest in our line of astronomical image display programs
  • XPA: simple, seamless communication between many types of programs (e.g., Unix, X, Tcl/Tk)
  • Zhtools: stand-alone tools to process FITS astronomical images and X-ray data in general, developed by Alexey Vikhlinin
  • Past Projects

  • Funtools: FITS library and analysis programs that hide the complexity of FITS
  • NCL: IRAF cl with tcsh-style line editing
  • SAOtng: "the next generation" of astronomical image display (after saoimage, prior to DS9)
  • ASSIST: a uniform interface to software and information (in collaboration with Mark S. Ackerman)
  • Everyday Classroom Tools: an inquiry-based science curriculum for kindergarten through sixth grade
