Moscow State University will host the biggest chemistry team tournament for pupils

chem1From 4 to 6 February 2016, Lomonosov Moscow State University will host the II Interregional Chemical Tournament – the largest team competition in Russia for pupils interested in chemistry. It will bring together teams from 19 regions of Russia, as well as Serbia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

The aims of this year are united by a common theme “Chemistry and Space.” As a part of the tournament the participants have developed the structure of Jupiter airships, have suggested chemical reactions on the surface of Pluto and the comet Churyumov – Gerasimenko, and have figured out how to do a scotch tape from potatoes on Mars.

The shortlisting of applicants was carried out in two ways ? a distant round and an on-site round. The distant one anticipated the victory in one of the 13 regional stages held in Moscow, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Yakutsk and other cities. To participate in the distant round the applicants were asked to send a detailed solution of the task the decision of which the team had considered to be the best. It was attended by about two thousand people, 350 teams from 55 regions of Russia, as well as Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Serbia. In total, 32 teams were invited to the final round.
