Dark energy: a quirk of gravity?

Large-scale flaws in general relativity could mimic dark energy's effects.
It's surprising how attached people have become to dark energy in a short while, given how weird the concept is. But it's still possible dark energy doesn't exist. The effects commonly ascribed to it may illustrate, instead, a breakdown in general relativity on cosmological scales.
