Alaska Aurora Borealis

 

February 25 - March 1, 2012

End of February is the perfect time to be looking for the frequent displays from the Fairbanks area. Expert sky photographer, Dennis Mammana, has photographed the aurora borealis in Alaska, Iceland and Norway for twelve years. Join Mammana on his latest expedition for the aurora February 25 - March 1, 2012.

Tour includes:

ITINERARY

Saturday, February 25, 2012 —Fairbanks, Alaska
Upon arrival in Fairbanks, will be met and transferred to your Holiday Inn. Meet lecturer and sky photographer, Dennis Mammana, at our Welcome Dinner followed by the World Ice Art Festival. (D)

Sunday, February 26, 2012 —Fairbanks
This morning Dennis Mammana will present a photographic lecture on the aurora borealis. This afternoon enjoy a tour of Fairbanks before driving to Mt. Aurora and Skiland Lodge for dinner and aurora watch. (B/D)

Monday, February 27, 2012 —Fairbanks – Chena Hot Springs
Today you will drive to Chena Hot Springs, discovered in 1905 by prospectors who soaked to alleviate the pain of rheumatism. The hot springs are located in a 40-square mile geo-thermal resource area. The water flows from the hot springs at 156 degrees and must be cooled before stepping in this rejuvenating mineral bath. Late night viewing the aurora borealis.(B/L)

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 —Chena Hot Springs
Morning at leisure but there are many activities at Chena to enjoy: dog sled ride, snowmobiles, ice-skating., spa or horse drawn sleigh ride. Aurora watch tonight. (B/L)

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 —Chena Hot Spring –Fairbanks
Late morning lecture by Dennis Mammana before check-out and return to Fairbanks for the night. Aurora watch tonight along the Alaska Pipeline. (B/D)

Thursday, March 1, 2012 —Fairbanks– Homeward
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight homeward (B)
