Experiment Ten'-Mayak

Objective:

  • To investigate the VHF radio signal transceiving conditions in the onboard radio beacon mode on RS-ISS with use of the global amateur radio communications.
  • To determine the properties of radio signals translated and retranslated by the onboard transceiver.
  • To obtain the initial data and operative work experience in order to develop the proposal on use of Ten'-Mayak Space Experiment method for ED programs, particularly, in the laboratory work format.

Tasks:

  • To generate the onboard radio beacon sounding pulses in the form of control time tag and receive those pulses by the ground receiving system, including VHF amateur receivers, and transmit the measurement results via the Internet.
  • To verify the induced radio silent principle in the short packet generation mode under the AX25 Radio Link Protocol.
  • To estimate the differential ground receiving system sensitivity impact on the precision of spatio-temporal measurement when applying the said onboard-ground radio sounding method.
  • To check on the technical capabilities and approaches for development of proposal on creation of laboratory work based on the Ten'-Mayak Space Experiment method and include it subsequently into the course of studies in the higher educational institutions specialized on the airspace and radiotechnics.

Science Hardware Used:

  • Ham packet radio system including:
    • transceiver of USW;
    • antenna-feeder device (4 pieces);
    • power supply unit (2 pieces);
    • control computer RSC 2.
  • dedicated software monitoring generation of probing pulses in onboard transceiver in radio beacon mode;

Ground segment:

  • ground receiving network of ham radio packet communication to record probing pulses of onboard radio beacon;
  • Center for Scientific Data Acquisition and Processing (SDA&PC) based upon official Internet-server (TsNIIMASH) for control of receiving network, as well as data acquisition from its measurement points.

Experiment Results:

Files containing data on the recorded radio signals (time, place, frequency-phase characteristics) transmitted through Internet from each ground-based receiver within measurement USW network at the address of the Center for Scientific Data Acquisition and Processing.
