Starry Night at Cerro Armazones

Panoramic view taken at twilight looking south from Cerro Armazones, the selected site for the planned European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT). Just behind the tall tower is the Milky Way, while on the right the fuzzy Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are visible. The Magellanic Clouds are two irregular galaxies neighboring the Milky Way. The south celestial pole is to the left of the Magellanic Clouds, forming an approximately equilateral triangle with the two galaxies.
