MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT Building the Foundation for U.S. Astronomy at m/cm Wavelengths in 2010 and Beyond Community Workshop Ventana Canyon Resort Tucson, AZ August 3,4 2006
On behalf of NAIC, NRAO, and the U.S. SKA Consortium, it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in a planning workshop for the future development of U.S. m/cm wavelength astronomy. The workshop will provide a forum for interested members of the astronomical community to share ideas about priorities for the many scientific opportunities that are being opened for exploration at m/cm wavelengths, and to discuss how best to exploit those opportunities. The workshop is scheduled in the very near future so as to enable its recommendations to be used to guide and inform decision processes among our sponsoring agencies as the new fiscal year begins in the U.S. In addition, the workshop discussions will be very useful in helping all of us understand the areas of greatest scientific interest to the U.S. m/cm community; this understanding will aid our future planning for U.S. participation in international projects. This particular workshop is the second step in the continuation of a discussion among the national observatories and the U. S. community of academic researchers that began with a meeting in February 2006 held in Chicago. These meetings, and others to follow, are part of a process leading up to the next decadal survey of astronomy and astrophysics. We are looking forward to a very interesting, and beneficial exchange of ideas. As one way of stimulating that exchange, the agenda has time explicitly set aside for contributed talks. We invite you to present your "blue sky" thoughts and plans. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us in Tucson August 3 and 4. Full meeting details, registration information and hotel information may be found at http://www.naic.edu/~astro/chicago2. Your participation, and your support, is important. Please join us. Scientific organizing committee: Robert Brown (NAIC) Chris Carilli (NRAO) Jim Cordes (USSKA) Dale Frail (NRAO) Murray Lewis (NAIC) K. Y. Lo (NRAO) Yervant Terzian (USSKA)
