Comments Distributed in giant molecular clouds, which contain an appreciable fraction of the ISM by mass, although they occupy < 1% of interstellar space. Distributed in relatively large clouds, which occupy »2­4% of space. Gas that envelops the cooler interstellar clouds and occupies »20% of space. HII regions that surround group of hot stars. This component may occupy 10% of space. Gas heated by shock waves from supernovae and occupies »70% of the space.
