DAILY REPORT #1311

PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z
Daily Status Report as of 024/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A
PC Snapshot Imaging)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy
NGC-1411 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations,
and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.2 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 5349 (The UV Interstellar Extinction in
M-31 and M-33)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make
observations of stars M-31-OB48-3 and M-31-OB78-2 which are located in galaxy
M-31 (aka, The Andromeda Galaxy) to study interstellar extinction. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR
Radio Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies
3C274.0, 3C334.0 and 3C465.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the
galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed FOS/RD 5512 (Cores of Early Type Galaxies: Part II)
The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations
of the nucleus of early type galaxy NGC-3379-NU. There were two reported
guide star recentering events which lasted for a total of 12 seconds. No
other anomalies were noted.

1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration:
Earthflats, Smaller Set)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band
filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's
illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no
problems were reported.

1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4
Medium, High Galactic Latitude)

The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as
part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel
with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance
Scale: Cycle 4 High)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3351 to be used in
measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The
observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5408 (Star Cluster and CNO Abundance in Blue Compact
Galaxies With Extreme)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the star formation
regions within the low metallicity blue compact galaxy SBS1415+43 to be used
to determine the size, color, and luminosity of imbedded star clusters. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.
