DAILY REPORT #1504

PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/25/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/26/95

Daily Status Report as of 299/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6166 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of Spectra =
and Wavelength Calibration)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make =
wavelength calibration images to measure the stability of the FOS Blue =
Side wavelength scale and spectral locations. A Taled calibration =
observation was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, =
and no anomalies were reported.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal =
Monitor - Vis Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration =
images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The =
observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary =
system SGP013 (Late Type Class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine =
why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while =
that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by =
Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal =
Monitor)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration =
observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were =
taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the =
cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5844 (HST Investigation of a Bright, New Comet)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the bright new comet =
Hale-Bopp (aka, Comet C/1995 O1). The images will yield information of =
the nuclear size and coma near the nucleus. The observations were =
completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5996 (The Morphology of Field Galaxies at High =
Redshifts)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of several field =
galaxies (Field-2217) in order to study their morphologies. The =
observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5998 (The Evolution of Massive Stars: Closing the =
Loop Observationally)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of (OB Class) a massive =
star in M-33-Field 4 which is located in the Andromeda galaxy. The goal =
is to study the evolution of this class of massive stars. The =
observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary =
Nebula Nuclei)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of =
planetary nebula A78 to study its nuclei and to look for possible =
companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5912 (Precise Astrometry in the Core of the =
Globular Cluster 47 Tuc)
=3D
The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of the =
globular cluster 47 Tuc (aka, NGC-104) in order to make precise =
astrometric measurements. These images will be used with others taken =
over a two year period to search for high proper motion stars. The =
observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6114 (White Dwarf Distance and Precision Age for =
the Globular Cluster 47 Tuc)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of white dwarf stars =
WD0002+729 and WD0644+375 which are located in the globular cluster 47 Tuc =
in order to study the clusters age and distance. This set of observations =
will be used to determine the distance to 47 Tuc, hopefully to an accuracy =
of better than 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no =
anomalies were noted.

2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY:

2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions:

Scheduled Acquisitions : 4
Successful : 4

Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6
Successful : 6

2.2 FHST Updates:

Scheduled : 8
Successful : 8

2.3 Operations Notes:

A TTR was written to document the loss of realtime engineering data =
due to a hardware problems at STGT. All day 300 events are being =
re-scheduled from SGLT1 to SGLT3 to avoid the problem while SGLT1 is being =
fixed.

3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS:

Nothing at this time.
