During the webinar, a panel of scientists and program directors described the hardware and current programmatic status of the observatory and the science enabled by JWST. Brief presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session, during which webinar attendees submitted questions to the panelists.
Nobel Laureate John Mather is the Senior Project Scientist and Chair of the Science Working Group of the JWST mission. His research interests include cosmology, far-infrared astronomy and instrumentation, and Fourier transform spectroscopy.
Rick Howard is the Program Director of the JWST Program Office at NASA Headquarters. Previously he was the Deputy Chief Technologist in the Office of the Chief Technologist and Deputy Director of the Astrophysics Division in the Science Mission Directorate.
Eric Smith is the JWST Deputy Program Director at NASA Headquarters. Prior to that, he served as the JWST Program Scientist.
Matt Mountain is the Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. He is also the Telescope Scientist for JWST and a member of the JWST Science Working Group.
Julianne Dalcanton is a professor of astronomy at the University of Washington. Her scientific interests revolve around the origin and evolution of galaxies and their use as probes of fundamental physics. She is actively engaged in outreach activities, teaching, and public speaking.
Roberto Abraham is a professor in the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. His area of specialization is observational cosmology, with a focus on galaxy evolution.
Jonathan Lunine is the David C. Duncan Professor in the Physical Sciences at Cornell University. His research interests are planet formation, evolution, and habitability. He is a member of the JWST Science Working Group.
