Abstract . T o deriv e a selection-fre e magneti c fiel d distributio n for mai n sequenc e star s w e hav e starte d a magneti c surve y o f th e brightes t norther n stars . Th e sampl e represent s wel l th e mai n sequenc e star s i n th e rang e B 3 -: - F9 . W e describ e th e sampl e an d conclud e tha t i t satisfie s well th e purpose s o f studyin g th e magneti c fiel d statistics . Th e observation s ar e carrie d ou t wit h th e coud e echell e spectrograp h CEG S o f th e 1 m telescope . W e presen t her e th e result s o f observation s o f 7 star s o f th e list .
