Cadenza (DOS) (Big Noise Software)

Cadenza is a fully professional sequencer with a list of gro-
und-breaking features not normally found in DOS based programs.
This product features an intuitive graphic interface that inclu-
des drop-down menus, icons, dialogs and of course, full mouse
and keyboard support. Cadenza's controller sliders let you auto-
mate controllers such as volume and pan in real-time while your
sequence is playing. Other features include accurate and easy to
use event edit screens, SMPTE, MTC, FSK, and SPP sync, tempo
map, step record, sys-ex librarian, independent track looping,
full support for the MQX-32M interface by Music Quest, and much

MaxPak (Big Noise Software)

This is an economical but powerful set of five Windows appli-
cations. First, it's SeqMax: a full featured linear and pattern
based sequencer which includes the graphic editing capabilities,
the multipart support, and full tape sync capacities heretofore
available only in more expensive packages. The score window
shows all unmuted tracks in staff notation to which you can add
lyrics, expression marks, and then print the score or parts! MCI
command playback is now supported also! As if that weren't eno-
ugh, it's also LibMax: an easy to use patch librarian which add-
resses a wide variety of currently available MIDI devices. And
if your instrument isn't among those supported, the program pro-
vides instructions on how to program new instrument profiles.
MaxPak also includes MixMax, a 16 channel automated MIDI mixer
which can be configured to control any MIDI device that accepts
control change messages. Use MixMax to automate a mix using MIDI
instruments or an external MIDI controllable mixer such as Mark
of the Unicorn's MIDI Mixer 7s, or perhaps a MIDI controlled
lighting console. JukeMax: a 256 track live performance sequence
player. There are settings for looping songs, and even transpo-
sing songs in order better to match adjacent songs in a medley.
JukeMax will display lyrics on screen. And finally there's Tape-
Max: a newly added program designed to control tape recorders
which respond to MIDI Machine Control. Control all transport
functions: play, record, stop, fast forward, etc. There are 7
autolocate positions and VTR audio and video edit enable but-
tons.

has the SeqMax notation editor and printer with its support for
lyrics and expression marks. It features drum editing, multime-

PowerTrack Pro (PG Music)

Steinberg's Cubase offers an intuitive user-interface with a
flexible graphic format. The arrange window clearly displays
your music as parts, taking the guesswork out of song construdi-
on. You can be as linear or as pattern oriented as you please.
Cubase adapts to the way you want to work. A mixing console,
conditional music transformation editor, two algorithmic inte-
ractive phrase synthesizers, a MIDI processor, and chord analy-
zer are all integrated into one program. Edit your music in pia-

can be done in real time. Even save your song while the music
plays. Choose between SIX nondestructive quantize modes. Design

Cakewalk (Twelve Tone Systems)

Essentially replacing Cakewalk previous version at a lower
price and with all the features of the old Cakewalk Pro DOS,
plus some significant modern additions. Here's a full featured
DOS based sequencer with SMPTE support, 48-480 ppq selectable
timebase, and the CAL language for writing your own edit com-
mands. But TTS has added the Cakewalk live playlist utility, lo-
ad/save for both MIDI file types 1 and 0, and support for MIDI
instrument patch names, along with other enhancements to this
top-of-the-line DOS program. The program supports multi-port in-
terfaces such as the Music Quest MQX-32M and the MIDI Engine 2
Port/SE, the Key MS-124, and the MOTU MIDI Time Piece II PC.
There are also DOS drivers for Sound Blasters. The program also
supports the PS/1 audio card and joystick option and any
MPU-401-type card.

This latest addition to the TTS roster is especially geared
to those who have a Windows compatible sound card and want an
economical way to play and record music using the card alone, or

pabilities to Cakewalk Home Studio (without the ability to print
music) and features the new TTS virtual piano, which makes it
easy to play and record music even if you don't have a MIDI ins-

Cakewalk Home Studio is an economical choice for those who
want to be in the "Cakewalk Windows fold" but don't feel they
