Subject: ARTI LECTURE,  COSMOS, Mount Stewart

Hi all,

1. Due to a late cancellation I have still got a guest ticket available for 
the official launch of the ARTI radio telescope for Ireland tomorrow (Thursday) 
in the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson St, Dublin. This will follow the public 
lecture, at 6 p.m., by Dr Phil Diamond Director of the MERLIN & VLBI National 
Facility at Jodrell Bank. That will be followed by the official launch at about 
7 p.m.

Since it's such short notice, the ticket is now available without any 
donation to the IAA funds! But you'll need to reply to me aby email by midnight 
tonight (Wed), and make your own way there.

2. Congratulations to all in the thriving Tullamore Ast Soc, who put on yet 
another very enjoyable 'COSMOS' starparty at Annaharvey last W/E. I'm still 
recovering....  Prime movers were once again Maire & Girvan McKay, Grainne 
Kirwan, Seanie Morris & Tom Walsh, but well done to all the committee. There was a 
fierce storm for most of the W/E, but even so, some observing was possible on 
the Saturday night. I regret to have to admit that I once again declined to 
accept my prize for winning Bob's quiz, and found another willing victim, in the 
shape of Danny Collins, to go hore-riding - again!  Girvan won Maire's quiz 
(cries of 'Fix' resounded through the room), and a team including John O'Neill, 
Creidhe O'Sullivan & Seanie Morris won the table quiz (sorry, I've forgotten 
the fourth member!). The date for next year's event has already been set: 1-3 
April 2005.

3. IAA EVENT AT MOUNT STEWART, Co Down. Saturday 27 March, 7 p.m. 

This event is for the public, and unless you have already booked a ticket 
you're too late, UNLESS you are bringing a telescope or tripod-mounted binoculars 
to show the sky to the public! 
   Mount Stewart, the famous National Trust House & Gardens, is well 
signposted on the main A 20 road south from Newtownards to Portaferry, about 5 miles 
from N'ards. Refreshments are included in the ticket price, in case you are 
looking for any cancellations. But best of all, bring a 'scope and get in free! 
We'll have a nice crescent Moon, + all five 'non-telescopic' planets, + the 
usual other goodies to see.
