Subject: Comet NEAT

Hi all,

At last!

Comet NEAT observed this evening, 21.35 - 21.45 UT, 30 x 80 binocs, 
Castlereagh Hills, S. Belfast. 

Pat O'Neill & I tried for it on Friday evening, from the West side of Divis 
Mountain, but we were defeated by wispy clouds & patches of murk & haze in the 
region of the comet. We never even saw Alpha Mon, the brighest star close to 
the comet (a few degrees above it). Then Saturday night was cloudy.

It was also just barely visible this evening in Zeiss 10x50 binocs, but the 
sky was hazy, and it was at the limit!

Magnitude estimated at about 4m.5, round, fuzzy, little condensation, no tail 
visible in the binocs.

Is this what all the fuss was about?
