From: TerryMoselaol.com Date: Tue, 25 Oct 2005 18:12:45 EDT Subject: Radio, Mars Watch, Astro Quiz Hi all, 1. RADIO: Two items might be of interest on "Quantum Leap", presented by Mary Mulvihill, on RTE Radio 1, on Thursday at 8 p.m. A. Yours truly will be interviewed about the current close opposition of Mars, & what's to be seen in the sky etc. B. Also, Prof Mike Bailie, author of 'Exodus to Arthur', will be interviewed: I don't know the subject yet, but it could be something to do with his latest book (with Patrick McCafferty) "Comets in Irish Myth", just published. 2. MARS WATCH: The IAA will be holding a public MARS WATCH, at the lower (main) car park at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra, near Holywood, Co Down, at 8.30 p.m., on Sat 29 October. Weather permitting, of course - if it's raining, we won't be there! Admission free, and all will be welcome. Bring along your 'scope if you have one. And binoculars too, for general sky viewing. And wrap up warm, from head to toe! 3. ASTRO QUIZ. The next IAA meeting, on Wednesday 2 November, will be an astronomical version of a well-known TV programme! For copyright reasons I'm not even going to mention it, but the IAA Quiz will be entitled "Who Wants To Be An Astronomical Centenaire?". And believe it or not, it will be for real money, with the possibility of winning up to ё100! Of course, just like the TV programme, the actual winnings are unlikely to reach that top figure! In fact, I have assured our treasurer that most people are unlikely to get beyond ё12.50. Especially when I tell you that I set the questions! Still, you never know....! The prizes start at 1p, and go up in 15 approx double steps to ё100. The format will be as similar as I can make it, with 'lifelines', and if you get to 10p, and then ё3.20, you get to keep those amounts. Admission will be free as usual, and everyone will have a chance of entering. Questions will be on astronomy, with a few on space thrown in. It should be good craic, and some serious stuff too as the prize amounts get bigger.... I hope that at least 3 people will be able to sit in the hot seat during the evening! I'll be presenting it, and my decisions will be fair - and final! It will start at 7.30 p.m. sharp, in the usual venue: Room 5, Stranmillis College, Stranmillis Road, Belfast. PS, no coughing, please.... Clear skies, Terry Moseley
