Leonid dust trail positions in 2002
The lunar phase (nearly full) will be unfavourable but a meteor storm due to
the 1866 trail is extremely likely, visible from the Americas. The secondary
storm, when the Earth passes through the 1767 trail, will be visible from
western Europe and western Africa. Both are more than a day after the Earth
passes through the orbital plane of Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.
A
fuller explanation of these trail cross section
plots is available.
