February Drier and Colder than Average

Armagh Observatory reports that February was drier, duller and colder than average. The total precipitation for the month was 42.2 mm (1.66 inches), that is, about one-quarter less than the average. Snow fell on seven days.

The number of hours of sunshine was 51.9, that is, about 20% less than the monthly average.

The mean monthly temperature was 2.6 degrees Celsius (36.7 degrees Fahrenheit). That is, about 2 degrees C colder than the long-term average since 1795. The maximum temperature was 10.9 degrees C on the 5th, and the lowest air temperature was -5.7 C on 22nd. There were 25 nights with grass frost and 17 with air frost.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
