Use your mouse to look around and up and down.
The curved internal corners are an interesting feature of this room. These can also be seen in the Director's Study and are an architectural reference to the massive column upon which the original telescope is mounted and around which the spiral staircase to the first floor is constructed.
Starting at the fireplace and proceeding clockwise (left to right) you can see the following (click on a thumbnail for more information);

Also on the piano is a scale model of the "Celestial Sphere" sculpture which is in central Armagh | ![]() |
The bookcase contains bound volumes of the journals "Nature" and "The Observatory" from the 19th and 20th centuries | |
On the floor is a Celestial Globe by Newton and Berry | ![]() |
On the wall is a spiral arrangement of portraits of former Chairmen of the Board of Governors of the Observatory | |

On the sideboard is an orrery by Gilkerson | ![]() |
