Moon Day — July 20, to be exact. On this historic date 44 years ago, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the
Moon. Astronomy author James Mullaney believes the event should receive recognition as a national/international holiday. I agree, but doubt it will ever happen (although it is an unofficial holiday in various communities).
Moon Day may not be present in our calendars, but we can commemorate the date by taking a “giant leap” of our own to Tranquillity Base, site of the Apollo 11 lunar landing.
