SDSS Camera Preparation for Transport to Enclosure

SDSS Camera Preparation for Transport to Enclosure

The afternoon (10/23) was very productive. The weather cleared and became quite bright.

Mike Carr and Jim Gunn prepare the camera, fitting lift fixtures and accomplishing delivery inspections. I struggled to use the the lens magnifier on the digital camera on Picture 2, but I think I'm going to give up on that feature.

Jim and Mike rotate the camera (on its cart) and remove the cover to inspect the underside. The 'innerds' candidly look like a car's engine, i.e. has a radiator system, 8 cylinders, and even a little a/c--and several analogies were traded, along with teen memories of cars we've known and loved!

Jim and Mike hold a small hands-on workshop on preparing the camera for transport with Dan Long, Jon Davis, and Jon Brinkmann. It was very informative and a good opportunity to pickup on the small details.

John Wagner completes the pickup trauck carrier and the enclosure is prepared.

Ernst and Zlako complete the assembly of the doghouse and the camera's support cart is placed off to the side.

WOOF! WOOF!

Back at the 3.5m enclosure, Mike, Jim, and French rotate the camera into position for lifting.

Norm Blythe/APO and Richard Lucinio show that a walk through the 2.5m work area is a little hazardous and shows just how organized you have to be to operate in very little space.

The next installment of pictures are listed on APO's home page under 2.5m Telescope: Camera Mount to Telescope. These pictures will remain on this site untiil 10/31. Pictrues taken by Gretchen Van Doren/Apache Point Observatory.
