How to reference CHIANTI

The continued development of the CHIANTI database is dependent on continued funding which is generally available if we can demonstrate that the CHIANTI database is of use to astrophysical research.
If you use CHIANTI, we only ask that you acknowledge it appropriately in any publications:

1 - quote the first of the CHIANTI papers , which describes the methods used in CHIANTI, and the one associated with the particular VERSION of CHIANTI you have used:

• Version 1.x - Dere et al., 1997; AASS, 125, 149
• Version 2.x - Landi et al. 1999; AASS, 135, 339
• Version 3.x - Dere et al., 2001; ApJSS, 134, 331
• Version 4.x - Young et al., 2003; ApJSS, 144, 135
• Version 5.x - Landi et al., 2006; ApJSS, 162, 261

For example, if you have used Version 5, the reference to CHIANTI should be given as ''Dere et al. 1997, Landi et al. 2006''.

2 - We would also appreciate if you also write in the acknowledgements of any publication the following short sentence:

CHIANTI is a collaborative project involving the NRL (USA), RAL (UK), MSSL (UK), the Universities of Florence (Italy) and Cambridge (UK), and George Mason University (USA).
