Super Moon On March 19th a nearly perfect perigee-syzygy occured which made the apparent size of the Moon larger then normal. This happens on average, once every 18 years. Perigee is the point at which the Moon is closest in its orbit to the Earth and syzygy is a full or new moon, when the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are aligned. On Saturday the Full Moon occured at 18:10 UT (14:10 EDT)and was less then an hour away from perigee.
