Update on the Gemini Telescopes - Dr Paul Francis Colloquium

These are exciting times at the Gemini Observatories. New
capabilities are being commissioned all the time, and planning
has begun for a suite of stunning new instruments. The number
of nights Australia gets has more than doubled - it's
now easier to get Gemini time than ATCA time.

I'll describe what Gemini can currently do for us, and some of
the new capabilities coming on-line in the next year or two. I'll
compare it with other big optical/IR telescopes, and give my opinion of
where it shines and where it sucks. Gemini's Queue scheduled mode of
operation makes it uniquely easy to use for those who are not
black-belt optical/IR astronomers - I'll explain. I'll also ask
your input on how Gemini can best help your science over the next few
years.
