   	 Search for the data file on the DLT backup tape

Query

If you know the name (or part of it) of the file you want to recover from the backup tape, you need to enter it in the box below and submit it. The output is given as the number of the tape, and the corresponding tape file.

The tape has to be advanced to the specified file with: mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf [count] The tape is positioned on the first block of the [count + 1] tape file.

Currently one has to read up to the full size of the tape file, which can be as large as 100Gb. In the next backup sessions smaller tape files will be created to improve time efficiency of the recovery of single files. The tape file is read with: tar xvpbf 1024 /dev/nst0 after you moved to the beginning of the file you want. When your file is read into a disk, press control-C to stop tar, and rewind the tape with: mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind or just mt -f /dev/nst0 offline (this should rewind the tape and eject it from the drive). Please, remember to return the tape to the storage.
