Seting up an Xraid for a direct connection to PC or laptop

  • Connect the PC/laptop network port directly to one of the Xraid network ports by a standard Cat5e cable. A cross-over cable is Not needed.
  • Set a static network address on your PC/laptop to

Netmask255.255.0.0
Network169.254.0.0
Broadcast169.254.255.255
  • To discover the network address of the Xraid run

==>> ping -b 169.254.255.255 you should get an return from the Xraid IP

  • Raid the Apple RAID Admin Tool and enter this IP address as the destination host
  • If you want to do this more than once, set a static IP address on the RAID admin, e.g.
Address Xraid192.168.1.50
Address PC192.168.1.10
Netmask255.255.255.0
Network192.168.1.0
Broadcast192.168.1.255

then update the client host in RAID Admin Tool to point to 192.168.1.50
