Expedition 8 (ISS-8)
MAIN TASKS OF THE EXPEDITION
- Launch of ISS-8 crew and ESA's Spanish astronaut, operating
under the visiting crew program (VC-5), aboard Soyuz TMA-3
transport manned spacecraft of 7S mission;
- Soyuz TMA-3 docking to Service Module with its subsequent
redocking to Functional Cargo Block;
- Handling operations to undock the Soyuz TMA-2, Progress
M-48, Progress M1-11, Progress M-49 spacecraft;
- Handling operations to dock the Progress M1-11, Progress
M-49, Progress M-50 and Soyuz TMA-4 spacecraft;
- Unloading of the Soyuz TMA-3, Progress M1-11, Progress
M-49, Progress M-50 and Soyuz TMA-4 spacecraft;
- Support of the station serviceability;
- Conduct of extravehicular activity - the first egress
from Pirs CO1 docking compartment on the ISS RS;
- Performance of the scientific and applied research
and experiments program, as well as contract-based commercial activities;
- Performance of the program of experiments under the SSM Servantes
Project during the VC-5 period;
- Shift handover to ISS-9 expedition and return of ISS-8 crew and ESA's Dutch astronaut, who worked under the visiting
crew program (VC-6), aboard Soyuz TMA-3 transport manned spacecraft.
