Experiment Izgib

Purpose:

  • Identifying the gravity environment on the ISS, flight conditions and ISS service and science operation modes required for performance of the experiment. Developing mathematical models of the ISS gravity environment and convective processes caused by the effect of weak residual accelerations.
  • Investigating the motion of TCV Progress M in various spinning modes while maintaining the gravity and sun orientation in order to determine the microgravity situation aboard the ISS.

Tasks:

  • Measuring microaccelerations in the science hardware locations:
    • during operation of the onboard equipment having rotating elements (gyros, powerful fans);
    • during establishment and maintenance of various ISS orientation modes (ICS, ОCS) and station reconfiguration;
    • during crew egresses into space and exercises.
  • Determining uncontrolled rotational movement of TCV Progress М in a spinning mode while maintaining the gravity and sun orientation after vehicle undocking from the ISS.
  • Determining TCV Progress М power supply parameters during the flight in a spinning mode while maintaining the gravity and sun orientation.

Used science hardware:

  • "Dakon - М" hardware.

Used flight hardware:

  • gyroscopic angular rate vector meter of the guidance, navigation & control system;
  • accelerometers;
  • microacceleration meters of the onboard measurement system;
  • SAMS and MAMS-type accelerometers on the ISS US Segment;
  • TCV Progress angular velocity sensors.

Expected Results:

  • Clarification of mathematical models of the ISS gravity environment.
  • Identification of critical levels of microaccelerations essential for formation of convective flows and temperature fields in liquid and gaseous media and affecting the quality of materials produced in microgravity.

Experiment results:

The experiment result is telemetry information on measurements of service sensors and science devices received from the ISS and CTV Progress M.
