Russian
unmanned logistics spacecraft Progress M-49 launched from
Baikonur on May 25, 2004, has docked today with the International
Space Station (ISS) after two days of free flight in low
Earth orbit.
The spacecraft made its approach to a free axial docking
port on the Service Module Zvezda of the ISS. The initial
contact occurred at 17:55 Moscow Daylight Saving Time. The
spacecraft approach to the ISS, its fly-around and docking
were performed in an automated mode. At the final stage
of the spacecraft approach to the space station, during
its fly-around and docking they were within the visibility
zone of the Russian ground tracking stations.

In
compliance with the International Space Station (ISS) flight
program and obligations of the Russian Party under the ISS
Project rocket and space complex Soyuz-U/Progress M-49 was
launched at 16:34:23 Moscow summer time from Baikonur cosmodrome.
The aim of the launch is to deliver necessary cargoes to
the ISS to continue operation of the on-orbit complex and
create habitation and working conditions for the crew.

At
5:00 a.m. Moscow Time, the transporter with the Soyuz-U
launch vehicle and the Progress M-49 spacecraft left the
Assembly and Testing Facility and arrived to the launch
pad for the final pre-launch processing. The Soyuz-U - Progress
M-49 system was erected on the launcher.

Today the Technical Management meeting was held where a
decision on Progress M-49 filling with propellant components
and gases was made.
Cargo vehicle balancing and weighing was performed at the
SC assembly & testing facility. Then Progress M-49 cargo
vehicle was transferred to the filling station.
