The Atacama Pathfinder Experiment telescope, or APEX, blends into the snowy field on the Chajnantor plateau in Chile's Atacama region. At 5,100 metres, it���s the highest observatory site on the planet, and moisture is rare, with the snow an uncommon visitor.
