Context

This PBL exercise was used as the principle assessment item for a 1st year introductory cosmology course. About 40 students were enrolled. These students were required to have a reasonable high-school maths and physics background. Students were required to do the exercise in their own time: little class time was made available for it. Normal lectures and tutorials continued throughout the running of the exercise.
