"Type Ia Supernovae from exploding (Carbon-)Oxygen-Neon White Dwarfs"

The progenitor problem of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is still unsolved. Most of these events are thought to be explosions of Carbon-Oxygen White Dwarfs, but recent developments suggest that WDs with alternative compositions may contribute. But there is also the possibility of oxygen-neon white dwarf (ONe WD) or Carbon-Oxygen-Neon-hybrid white dwarf (CONe WD) progenitors in some of the explosion scenarios. I will present results from recent hydrodynamical simulations of explosions in Oxygen-Neon and ’hybrid’ Carbon-Oxygen-Neon WDs. I will present synthetic light curves and spectra of the explosions and show that detonations in ONe WDs would produce relatively normal SN Ia and deflagrations in the ’hybrid’ models likely explain the faint subclass of Type Iax supernovae.
