Subject: A brief history of Finder

Hi John, hi Bridget,

Here's a history of improvements and bug fixes to Finder, starting
from January 2003, reconstructed from the COAST logs and comments
in the code. We've come a long way, baby!

2003/01/15 Finder computers installed on all COAST telescopes.
East working.
2003/02/24 Finder launch menus installed on COAST bunker machines.
2003/03/14 Finders communicate with telescope controllers.
2003/03/17 First stellar acquisition on East with new finder.
2003/03/19 Idiot proofing - finder now tells user to disconnect CCD
if they tried to quit before doing so.
2003/03/25 Bug fix to stop crash when subregion was drawn top-left to
bottom right and then tracking initiated.
2003/03/28 New finder now default on East telescope, centre and inner
west finders installed.
2003/03/31 New finder cameras installed in all telescopes (only east
in optical path).
2003/04/03 East finder no longer requires kinematic mirror to work.
2003/04/29 New finders now all online on all telescopes.
2003/06/27 Random horizontal line bug fixed. 1D fast mode added.
Fix for crashes when selecting subframe of zero size
(but had to fix this again, below).
2003/07/03 Finder title bar now displays name of computer host.
2003/07/21 Display used to wrap around so that the rightmost column
was displayed on the left. Now fixed.
2003/08/27 FITS headers now record the binning and exposure time.
FITS header at end of file added that records timing
statistics.
2003/09/10-15 Network time synchronisation installed on COAST finders.
2003/09/30 Finder now beeps at end of file save.
2003/10/03 Bug fix when charge clearing is off in slow readout mode,
finder no longer clears to the end of each readout line.
2003/10/10 Finder now saves sequences of files.
2003/10/17 Fast 2D mode added.
2003/10/21 Fast 2D grid display added. Correct binning and exposure
now saved in fast 2D mode. Charge clearing status now
saved. Finder no longer crashes if charge clear button
is clicked while in fast readout mode.
2003/10/27 Spare parts kit for finder now at COAST.
2003/11/04 Files now saved in a directory tree based on acquisition date.
Bug fix to "Save Movie" icon.
2003/11/05 Between midnight and 8am Finder uses yesterday's date
to make sure an entire night's worth of files are in
the same directory.
2004/01/16 Finder used to clear chargeduring exposure, which added
~30ms to the selected exposure time. Now fixed.
2004/02/03 "Data Saved" and "Max Flux" progress bars added to the
Finder status bar.
2004/02/08 Bug fix to variations in long exposures (sometimes they
were 255 milliseconds shorter than they should be).
Improvements to timing accuracy, now better than 1%.
Crash when tiny subframe was selected now fixed.
2004/03/12 Vertical line artefact problem fixed.
