Hi friends. I would like to thank all of you for your efforts, the demo
has been a complete success. Not only have all stations actually
participated, with fringes to all 5 continents, but the demo itself
has generated an enormous amount of interest. In fact, at the venue we
were on our feet from early morning until the evening, explaining VLBI on
all possible levels. And we even made slashdot...

As for publicity, Huib was interviewed by the Iranian television, Patrick
by a French-Canadian radio station, and we all talked to numerous
journalists. We'll be world-famous yet. Patrick also very smoothly talked
the organisers into giving Huib a slot for a short presentation right at
the end of the programme (which you may have seen).

I understand that heroic last-moment and later-than-last-moment efforts
were needed at some stations, notably at Kashima, Torun, TIGO and the LBA.
And, impressively enough, all the problems were solved in time. Having
said that, the guys at JIVE also worked very long hours.

Note that we had several firsts. First continuous round-the-clock e-VLBI,
first e-VLBI session combining the EVN with Kashima and Westford, first
e-VLBI with Urumqi, first e-VLBI with 17 stations (albeit not
simultaneously).

The website that was created for the event was a great success, as were
the new tools like the on-the-fly imaging. The webcam page was a nice
eye-catcher, and the VLBI simulator proved enormously useful for
explaining VLBI. Actually, so did the globe we dragged with us from
Holland. Although that hardly can be called a new tool.

Harro will write an extensive report and create a site to gather all
pictures and press releases and such, he will be in touch with you
shortly.

Once again, thanks everybody, this was by far the most impressive and
challenging demo we have done, and I think we have not only generated some
excellent PR, but also that we have actually made some important technical
progress. Transparent global e-VLBI is beginning to be a reality.

Cheers, Arpad
