A Systematic study on HI properties of nearby galaxies hosting intermediate-mass

black holes
ABSTRACT: We propose to obtain systematic HI observations for a new, uniformly selected sample of Seyfert 1 galaxies hosting intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs; MBH = 103-6 M ) at z <=0.1. IMBHs at the center of present-day galaxies provide crucial links in understanding the formation of 'seed' BHs and the co-evolution of supermassive BHs and galaxies. Based on the proposed Arecibo observation and existing multiwavelength data, we will study the properties of the neutral gas in the host galaxies, and the possible correlations between the gas properties and the fueling mode of the IMBHs in red spheroidal and blue disk galaxies. The feasibility of this project has been demostrated by the observation during the 2015A semester. Here we request time to complete the rest of the project.
