Proposal Title: Radar Imaging of Asteroid 1999 RQ36
ABSTRACT:
The internal structure of asteroids is in general di#cult to determine. There are a number of spherical or
spheroidal asteroids, many in binary systems, that are presumed to be ``rubble piles''. We propose observations of
the spheroidal nearEarth asteroid 1999 RQ36 to determine its shape, and infer its internal strength and coe#cient
of friction from the observed flattening. This object is also a candidate for detection of the Yarkovsky e#ect based
on these radar observations and further observations in 2011.
