Proposal Title: A 21-cm Study of 127 Newly Discovered, Nearby LSB Galaxies
ABSTRACT:
We have discovered approximately 130 new low surface brightness galaxies believed to lie with in 3,000 - 8,000
km/s, including the rst known contingent of very red LSB galaxies. To determine the redshift and gas content of
these objects, we propose to attempt 21-cm detection of these galaxies. Based on previous use of Arecibo to detect
LSB galaxies and the improved sensitivity of the telescope, we expect easy detection within 5 minutes for most
galaxies.
