Proposal Title: RADAR IMAGING OF KLEOPATRA
ABSTRACT:
Kleopatra, the leading candidate for a metallic object in the main belt, is thought to have a complex, extremely
elongated, possibly bifurcated shape with maximum dimension of more than 230 km. This November's opposition
o ers the most favorable opportunity for radar investigation of Kleopatra until 2013. We propose intensive
delay-Doppler imaging with the objective of obtaining a detailed physical model (including de nition of most of
the shape at the several-kilometer level as well as accurate estimation of the surface's bulk density and metal
abundance. The geometric circumstances for this experiment are excellent, and the observing and
shape-reconstruction techniques are well established.
