Urgent Proposal for S-band Radar Imaging of Near-Earth Asteroid 2008 QS11

This is an urgent proposal requesting observing time (October 1-4, 2008) for the newly discovered potentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) 2008 QS11. The single-run SNR rates for 2008 QS11 are exceptionally good and the observing conditions for close approach of 2008 QS11 can be compared to those of 1992 Toutatis experiment. The radar data would greatly improve the orbital uncertainties and they would help predict the future close encounters with Earth. We hope to achieve adequate rotation-phase coverage that will allow shape modeling of this ob ject as well as estimation of its main physical properties.
