Total Time Requested: 18 Hours
Proposal Title: Highprecision timing of two recycled pulsars
ABSTRACT:
We request 18 hours of observing time to continue regular timing observations of two recycled pulsars spanning a
12month baseline. Timing observations of the relativistic binary pulsar J1829+2456 have so far determined a
minimum companion mass of 1.22 Msun which makes it likely that the companion is a neutron star. Continued
timing of J1829+2456 will allow the geometry of the system to be determined by measuring the relativistic
timedilation and gravitational redshift parameter, gamma. Measurements of the proper motion of both
J1829+2456 and J1944+0907 will allow their intrinsic Pdots to be determined. This will provide constraints on the
birth spin period and the kick produced during the supernova.
