Proposal Title: OH Spectroscopy of C/2012 X1 LINEAR November 2013­ March 2014
ABSTRACT:
Comet LINEAR (C/2012 X1) recently underwent an outburst, making it brighter than expected, and allowing us
to detect OH in the coma. These data will determine the water production rate and outflow velocity of the coma
gases. Additional monitoring of the activity of this comet will help us to explore the possible causes of outbursts
and determine how quickly the volatiles are exhausted. We request observing time for this comet until 1 Mar 2014,
to monitor it approximately weekly, for a total of about 15 dates. This comet is only observable in daytime, so
radio observations are critical.
