To investigate a dust formation event in WX Psc

Monitoring the ratio of red and blue-shifted 1612 MHz peak fluxes from the bright OH/IR star WX Psc utilizes a sensitive form of differential photometry. The resulting 'light' curve exhibits a well-defined cusp in each pulsation cycle. These are attributable to a sudden change in available pump photons consequent on the avalanche production of dust as the leading edge of an outwardly directed shock wave reaches the dust formation radius: a cusp is then generated by the light travel-time delay across the shell of the red-shifted maser. This proposal aims to explore the dynamics of the dust formation process by monitoring the 1612 MHz flux ratio through one dust formation event.
