Proposal Title: Scintillation Arc Observations of PSR B1737+13
ABSTRACT:
The warm ionized interstellar medium (WIM) is an important but poorly understood constituent of the Milky Way.
Recent developments in pulsar scintillation studies -- primarily at Arecibo -- allow quasiimaging of the WIM with
milliarcsecond resolution. PSR B1737+13 shows a remarkable amount of timevariable substructure in such studies.
These features are most easily explained as overpressured entities -- of unknown origin and duration -- in the WIM
on size scales of 1 -- 100 AU, quite possibly related to the origin of extreme scattering events. We propose a set of
32 weekly observations of this pulsar to track the movement and development of these puzzling features.
