Search for Radio Emission from the Newly Discovered Magnetar 3XMM J185246.6+00331

Radio emission from magnetars is not well understood and our understanding is limited by the small number of radio emitting magnetars that have been discovered. Only four radio magnetars are known, so any new detections are extremely valuable. 3XMM J185246.6+003317 is a newly discovered magnetar that was found serendipitously in XMM observations from 20082009. In this DDT proposal we propose to search for radio pulsations from this new magnetar to increase our understanding of radio magnetars either by detecting a new ob ject for study, or by placing a meaningful upper limit on the radio emission of the source.
