Proposal Title: Continuation of Longterm Survey of MainBelt M and Xclass Asteroids.
ABSTRACT:
We propose to observe two Mclass asteroids,261 Prymno (new target) and 785 Zwetana (previously observed) with
the Sband radar to constrain their physical properties, focusing specifically on their composition (metallic or not).
Zwetana is of special interest because it shows the largest rotational variation in radar albedo of any asteroid
observed, ranging from a low of 0.10 to a high of 0.60. Our previous work suggests this is not due to shape or
compositional variations, but may be due to variations in regolith thickness or largescale facets that were favorably
oriented during the last encounter. Our goals for these observations are to determine (1) if Prymno has a high
radar albedo or not (correlated with metallic content), and (2) to verify the previously observed large swings in
radar albedo for Zwetana.
