Arecibo Radar Observations of 18 High-Priority Near-Earth Asteroids from Jan

2016-Jan 2017
ABSTRACT:
We request 89 tracks covering 300 hours of telescope time (observing time + transmitter warmup time) between January 2016 and January 2017 to observe our 18 highest-priority near-Earth asteroids, including three binary asteroids previously discovered with Arecibo. Twelve of the targets have never been observed with radar and are poorly characterized. Our goals involve detailed physical characterization including constraining the size, shape, spin state, surface properties, near-surface roughness, and reflectivity of each target, as well as determination of binarity or multiplicity, orbital refinement, and three-dimensional shape modeling when possible.
