Astronomical Events for April and May

Apr 8th: Today is National Astronomy day. I'll be attending the festivities near Goddard Space Flight Center. See http://lheawww.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/outreach/gac/Events/astroday2000.html for details.

Apr 11th: First quarter moon.

Apr 16th: Mars will pass 2 degrees north of Saturn low in the west 45 minutes after sunset.

Apr 18th: Full moon.

Apr 21st: The Lyrid meteor shower peaks early this morning. Look to the northeast between midnight and morning twilight.

Apr 26th: Last quarter moon.

Apr 28th: Mercury passes just 1/3rd of a degree south of Venus. Use binoculars to look for the pair low in the east 20 minutes before sunrise.

May 4th: New moon.
